They are pre-lubed between the lips but make sure your shaft is surgically clean and splines seal area well lubed with Teflon grease prior to inserting it. This unit has all genuine Omc brp gears.
And seals a note about my paint process I prior to reassembly never leave them in primer. Following all of the paint work, lower unit shafting was set up in a shimming tool and shimmed according to oem specification. I brutally test my lower units integrity far exceeding any factory spec. My cases get the color coat same day as primer after about five hours. I have left out the retainer spring as it is not needed and that facilitates easy upper shaft length changes.
