Pros of buying a 1961 Johnson Evinrude 10hp outboard motor:

1. Historical value: This motor is a classic and collectible item due to its age and brand. It could be a great addition to a vintage boat or a museum collection.

2. Affordability: Compared to newer models, this vintage motor may be more affordable, making it a good option for those on a budget.

3. Simplicity: Older motors like this one often have fewer moving parts, making them simpler to maintain and repair.

Cons of buying a 1961 Johnson Evinrude 10hp outboard motor:

1. Performance: The motor may not have the same power and performance as newer models. This could limit its usefulness for high-speed activities or larger boats.

2. Reliability: Older motors can be more prone to breakdowns, particularly if they have not been well-maintained. This could result in costly repairs or replacement parts.

3. Availability of parts: Finding replacement parts for a vintage motor like this one can be challenging, which could make repairs more difficult and expensive.

In conclusion, buying the 1961 Johnson Evinrude 10hp outboard motor can be a great way to add historical value to your collection or to an old boat. However, it may not be the best choice for those who need a reliable motor for high-speed activities or who require easy access to replacement parts. If you are considering this purchase, be sure to do your research and budget accordingly for potential repairs or upgrades.

Recommendation: If you are a collector or a vintage boat owner, this motor could be a fun and affordable addition to your collection. However, if you need a reliable motor for regular use, it may be better to invest in a newer model with better performance and reliability.

Details:

The only signs of age is on rubber handle, but that's expected 50 year old. This pull start assembly is in excellent condition. I think somebody ran straight gas in it due to the frozen pistons. Then it must have sat in the garage for a lot of years.

The 1961 10hp motor it came off was also in amazing shape. Take a look at the lower unit from same motor I have listed. It looks like was only used a few times see photos.
